Section 22-B3811. EGRESS REQUIREMENTS AND FIRE DOORS

    3811.1Each MHCRF shall have a fire exit that:

     

    (a)Is clearly designated on the MHCRF's disaster plan;

     

    (b)Is clearly identified for residents;

     

    (c)Is kept clear of obstructions; and

     

    (d)Is accessible from sleeping rooms.

     

    3811.2If the area or floor served by a fire exit door is to be occupied, the door shall not be locked in a manner that would require a key to unlock the door from the inside or that would require more than thirty (30) seconds to unlock.

     

    3811.3Each MHCRF that has residents in sleeping rooms above the second floor, or which has more than eight (8) residents in sleeping rooms above the street level, shall provide:

     

    (a)Access to two (2) separate means of exit for sleeping rooms above street level, at least one (1) of which shall consist of an enclosed interior stair, or a horizontal exit, or a fire escape, all arranged to provide a safe path of travel to the outside of the building without traversing any corridor or space exposed to an unprotected vertical opening; or

     

    (b)Alternative arrangements or method which, according to reasonable equivalency criteria set out in Chapter 21 of the current edition of the Life Safety Code, secure safety of life from fire.

     

    3811.4Each MHCRF shall comply with the requirements set forth in 12 DCMR §914.

     

    3811.5No MHCRF shall permit smoking in bedrooms.
