Section 25-B2601. VEHICLES USED TO TRANSPORT SHELLFISH

    2601.1Any dealer who transports shellfish shall ensure that all trucks used to transport shellfish are properly constructed, operated, and maintained to prevent contamination, deterioration, and decomposition of the shellfish.

     

    2601.2Storage bins on trucks or other vehicles used in the transport of shellstock or direct marketing shall be kept clean with potable water and provided with effective drainage.

     

    2601.3Shellfish shall be transported in refrigerated trucks when the shellfish has been previously refrigerated or when ambient air temperature and time of travel are such that unacceptable bacterial growth or deterioration may occur.

     

    2601.4Pre-chilling of trucks or other vehicles is required when ambient air temperatures are such that unacceptable bacterial growth or deterioration may occur.

     

    2601.5When mechanical refrigeration units are used, the units shall be:

     

    (a)Equipped with automatic controls; and

     

    (b)Capable of maintaining the ambient air temperature in the storage area at temperatures of forty-five degrees Fahrenheit (45° F) (seven and two tenths degrees Centigrade (7.2° C)) or less.

     

    2601.6Any ice used to cool shellfish during transport shall meet the requirements of section 901 of this Code.

     

    2601.7Cats, dogs, and other animals shall not be allowed in any part of the truck or other vehicle where shellfish is stored.
