Section 5-E1028. EMPLOYMENT OF RELATIVES

    1028.1No officer or employee of the Board of Education may appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for employment, promotion, or advancement, in or to any position in the D.C. Public Schools an individual who is his or her relative.

     

    1028.2No officer or employee of the Board of Education may appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for employment, promotion, or advancement any individual who is a relative of another officer or employee of the Board of Education if the other officer or employee has advocated the appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement of that relative.

     

    1028.3The term “relative,” as used in this section, includes a person’s father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, mother-in-law, father-in-law, stepfather, stepmother, stepson, stepdaughter, stepbrother, stepsister, half-brother, and half-sister.

     

    1028.4The term “advocate,” as used in this section, means to recommend, refer, support, suggest, or request the appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement of an individual who is one’s relative.

     

    1028.5Any exception to the provisions of this section shall be approved by the Superintendent of Schools, and may be allowed for a temporary period of not more than thirty (30) days in the event of an emergency or similar unforeseen event or circumstance.

     

    1028.6Any officer or employee of the Board of Education who appoints, employs, promotes, or advances, or advocates the appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement of any individual in violation of this section shall reimburse the Board of Education for any funds improperly paid to the individual.
