Section 5-E915. ADMISSIONS

 

915.1Enrollment in a public charter school shall be open to all students who are residents of the District of Columbia and, if space is available, to nonresident students who meet the tuition requirements of the District of Columbia.

 

915.2A public charter school may not limit enrollment on the basis of a student’s race, color, religion, national origin, language spoken, intellectual or athletic ability, measures of achievement or aptitude, or status as a student with special needs. A public charter school may limit enrollment to specific grade levels.

 

915.3If a public charter school has more applications to enroll in the school from students who are residents of the District of Columbia than there are available spaces, students shall be admitted using a random selection process. The documentation and results of the random selection process and a list of students on the waiting list as a result of such shall be available for review by the Board. The public charter school may give priority to the siblings of students enrolled in the school.

 

915.4Beginning on the date that a petition is filed by an eligible applicant seeking to convert an existing school, the school may give priority to:

 

(a)Students enrolled in the school at the time the petition is granted;

 

(b)The siblings of students described in paragraph (a) above;

 

(c)In the case of the conversion of a District of Columbia public school, students who reside within the attendance boundaries, if any, in which the school is located.
