Section 5-E918. STUDENT RECORDS

    918.1Each public charter school shall ensure the security, confidentiality and orderliness of all students’ records and shall ensure that a cumulative record is on file for each student.

     

    918.2Upon a student’s transfer from a charter school to a D.C. Public School, or from a D.C. Public School to a charter school, a copy of the student’s records shall be transferred immediately to the receiving school.

     

    918.3Within three (3) days of a student’s enrollment in the public charter school, the school shall request, in writing, that the student’s former school forward a copy of the student’s records.

     

    918.4If the public charter school does not receive the student’s record within ten (10) days following the student’s enrollment in the public charter school, the public charter school shall make a second request for the records, a copy of which shall be forwarded to the Superintendent of Schools and to the Executive Director, Public Charter Schools, District of Columbia Board of Education:

     

    918.5The public charter school shall establish a temporary file/record for the student until a copy of the permanent record has been received;

     

    918.6The public charter school shall place pertinent information, including copies of report cards and/or other documents, upon which the student’s placement in the appropriate educational program or grade designation was based.

     

    918.7The Executive Director, Public Charter Schools, shall provide to the Board of Education during its monthly meetings, a monthly report, from each public charter school, listing all students for whom records have not been received.

     

    918.8The Executive Director, Public Charter Schools, shall serve as the liaison between the public charter school and the DCPS administration to ensure the transfer of students’ records.

     

    918.9All students’ records shall be stored securely.

     

    918.10Public charter schools shall maintain a copy of each student’s records as long as the public charter school is in operation.

     

    918.11Should a charter school cease operations for any reason, all students’ records shall become the property of the District of Columbia Public Schools.
