Section 8-B1308. EXTENDED LEAVES OF ABSENCE

    1308.1A leave of absence shall be granted to an employee called to military service in accordance with the applicable federal, state, or District statutes.

     

    1308.2Employees shall be entitled to take up to thirty (30) days of leave in connection with the birth or adoption of their children. This leave shall be charged to accumulated sick leave, vacation leave, or may be leave-without-pay.

     

    1308.3The University may grant a full-time faculty member a leave of absence without pay for any of the following purposes:

     

    (a)To hold political office;

     

    (b)To accept a political appointment;

     

    (c)To render private or public service;

     

    (d)To accept temporary appointment at another institution of higher learning; or

     

    (e)To engage in any activity deemed advantageous to the reputation and standing of the University.

     

    1308.4Faculty leave-without-pay under §1308.3 may be awarded up to two (2) years, subject to one (1) renewal, during which the faculty member's name will remain on the faculty roster.

     

    1308.5Upon return from extended leave under §1308.3, the faculty member shall be reinstated at the rank held prior to the leave of absence.
