Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces the scheduling of an oversight hearing by the Committee of the Whole on Food Service Contracting in the D.C. Public School System.  The hearing will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.

 

The purpose of this oversight hearing is to hear testimony regarding the District of Columbia Public Schools’ (DCPS) food service program and vendor contract.  Many jurisdictions in the region have developed profitable school lunch programs, but DCPS has historically operated food services at a loss.  Food services have also been the cause of spending pressures.  This hearing will provide an opportunity to further examine the issues associated with DCPS’s food services contract, and ways to make it more efficient and less costly.

 

Those who wish to testify are asked to telephone the Committee of the Whole, at
724-8196, or e-mail Erika Wadlington, Legislative Assistant, at [e-mail] and furnish their name, address, telephone number, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business Tuesday, October 30, 2012.  Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 15 copies of written testimony.  If submitted by the close of business on October 30, 2012 the testimony will be distributed to Councilmembers before the hearing.  Witnesses should limit their testimony to four minutes in order to permit each witness an opportunity to be heard.

 

If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.  Copies of written statements should be submitted to the Committee of the Whole, Council of the District of Columbia, Suite 506 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004.  The record will close at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
