    Councilmember Muriel Bowser, Chair of the Committee on Government Operations, announces a public hearing on Bill 19-744, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board of Directors Act of 2012.  Bill 19-744 contains provisions to strengthen the qualification and reporting requirements of the District’s two WMATA Board members and two alternates.  This legislation is the product of recommendations made by the WMATA Governance Reform working group composed of representatives from Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.  Each jurisdiction is passing similar, though not necessarily identical, legislation.

     

    The public hearing will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 11:00 A.M., in Room 123, of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.  Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to testify at the public hearing are asked to contact Judah Gluckman, Legislative Counsel of the Committee on Government Operations, at (202) 724-8025, or via e-mail at jgluckman@dccouncil.us, and furnish their names, addresses, telephone numbers, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business Monday, October 29, 2012. Persons presenting testimony may be limited to 3 minutes in order to permit each witness an opportunity to be heard.

     

    If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.  Copies of written statements should be submitted to the Committee on Government Operations, Council of the District of Columbia, Suite 113 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004.
