Council Chairman Phil Mendelson announces the scheduling of a Public Hearing by the Committee on the Judiciary on PR 19-1002, “Sense of the Council Encouraging Congress to Enact The DREAM Act Resolution of 2012.” The Public Hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 10:00 a.m., in Hearing Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building.
The purpose of this public hearing is to provide the public with an opportunity to comment on the proposed resolution which would encourage The United States Congress to enact The DREAM Act. The DREAM Act would provide conditional permanent residency to certain undocumented residents of good moral character who graduate from U.S. high schools, arrived in the United States as minors, and lived in the country continuously for at least five years prior to the bill's enactment.
Those who wish to testify should contact Crispus Gordon, Legislative Assistant, at (202) 724-8196 or via e-mail at cgordon@dccouncil.us and provide their name, address, telephone number, organizational affiliation and title (if any) by close of business Friday, November 9, 2012. Persons wishing to testify are encouraged to submit 15 copies of written testimony. If submitted by the close of business on Friday, November 9, 2012 the testimony will be distributed to Councilmembers before the hearing. Witnesses should limit their testimony to four minutes; less time will be allowed if there are a large number of witnesses.
This notice is being revised to reflect a change in date. This notice is abbreviated to ensure timely notice to the public.
If you are unable to testify at the public hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Copies of written statements should be submitted to the Committee on the Judiciary, Council of the District of Columbia, Suite 109 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004. The record will close at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2012.
