Councilmember Tommy Wells, Chairperson of the Committee on Libraries, Parks, Recreation, and Planning, will convene a public oversight roundtable on two Fiscal Year 2013 Department of Parks and Recreation Initiatives: the new Park Policy and Programs Division and the Park Improvements capital project. The roundtable is scheduled for Thursday, November 29, 2012, beginning at 11 a.m. in Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC 20004. This hearing was rescheduled from Wednesday October 31, 2012.
Beginning with Fiscal Year 2013, the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) includes the “Park Policy and Programs Division", a new unit within the agency designed to activate neighborhood parks and green spaces, build community partnerships, support community gardens, and prioritize infrastructure and improvement projects in public parks. The new Park Improvements capital project was created in Fiscal Year 2013 to improve parks and playgrounds throughout the District. The purpose of the roundtable is to discuss the progress on these two new initiatives.
The Committee invites the public to testify. Individuals and representatives of organizations who wish to testify should contact Tawanna Shuford at 727-8204 or tshuford@dccouncil.us, and furnish their name, address, telephone number, and organizational affiliation, if any, by 5 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012. Witnesses should bring 15 copies of their testimony. Testimony may be limited to 3 minutes for individuals and 5 minutes for those representing organizations or groups.
If you are unable to testify at the public roundtable, written statements are encouraged and will be made part of the official record. Written statements should be submitted by 5 pm December 3, 2012 to Ms. Shuford, Committee on Libraries, Parks, Recreation, and Planning, Room 117, 1350 Pennsylvania Ave., NW, Washington, DC, 20004, or via email at tshuford@dccouncil.us.
