Chairman Phil Mendelson announces the scheduling of a public roundtable of the Committee on the Judiciary on PR 19-1097, Homeland Security Commission Darrell Darnell Confirmation Resolution of 2012; PR 19-1098, Homeland Security Commission Barbara Childs-Pair Confirmation Resolution of 2012; PR 19-1099, Homeland Security Commission Daniel Kaniewski Confirmation Resolution of 2012; PR 19-1100, Homeland Security Commission John Contestible Confirmation Resolution of 2012; PR 19-1102, Homeland Security Commission J. Michael Barrett Confirmation Resolution of 2012; PR 19-1103, Homeland Security Commission Glenn Gerstell Confirmation Resolution of 2012; and PR 19-1104, Homeland Security Commission Andrew Cutts Confirmation Resolution of 2012. The roundtable will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 in Hearing Room 412 of the John A. Wilson Building.
The stated purpose of PRs 19-1097, 19-1098, 19-1099, 19-1100, 19-1102, 19-1103, and 19-1104 is to confirm the appointment of Darrell Darnell, Barbara Childs-Pair, Daniel Kaniewski, John Contestible, J. Michael Barrett, Glenn Gerstell, and Andrew Cutts respectively, to the Homeland Security Commission. The purpose of the Homeland Security Commission is to gather and evaluate information about homeland security in the District and to recommend measures to improve such security. The purpose of this roundtable is to receive testimony from government and public witnesses as to the fitness of these nominees for the Commission.
Those who wish to testify should contact Ms. Christina Setlow, Legislative Counsel, at (202) 724-7808, by fax at (202) 724-6664, or via e-mail at csetlow@dccouncil.us, and provide their name, address, telephone number, organizational affiliation and title (if any) by close of business Monday, December 3, 2012. Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 15 copies of written testimony. If submitted by the close of business on Monday, December 3, 2012 the testimony will be distributed to Councilmembers before the roundtable. Witnesses should limit their testimony to five minutes; less time will be allowed if there are a large number of witnesses.
If you are unable to testify at the roundtable, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record. Copies of written statements should be submitted either to Ms. Setlow, or to Ms. Nyasha Smith, Secretary to the Council, Room 5 of the Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W. Washington, D.C. 20004. The record will close at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2012.
