The Chancellor of the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) will conduct a public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2011 budget for DCPS. The hearing will be held on Monday, November 23, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Old Board Room, 5th Floor, 825 North Capitol Street, N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002.
The purpose of the hearing is to solicit the views of the public on programs and levels of public funding to be sought in the FY2011 operating budget for the public schools, pursuant to the District of Columbia Official Code § 38-917. Specifically, the Chancellor wishes to receive testimony and exhibits regarding those subjects identified in D.C. Official Code § 38-917(4):
- The current and prospective educational needs of pupils in the District of Columbia public schools, educational programs that can address these needs and support systems needed for safety and efficiency;
- The relative levels of support provided in recent years and sought in the current budget requests for the District of Columbia public schools and other agencies of the District of Columbia Government.
- The programs and levels of funding supported by the findings of relevant professional studies and commissions; and
- The levels of funding for public school systems in surrounding jurisdictions that have reputations for providing high quality education to their students.
Members of the public are invited to testify. Testimony may be limited to five minutes per witness. Those wishing to testify should contact Mr. Sang Yoon at sang.yoon@dc.gov or 202-480-0860 by 5:00 p.m. by Thursday, November 19, 2009. If witnesses have not contacted Mr. Yoon in advance of the hearing, they must sign up to speak upon arrival at the hearing and will be added to the witness list in the order they sign up. Witnesses should bring three copies of their testimony.
Members of the public may submit written testimony which will be made part of the official record.
