ANNOUNCES A PUBLIC HEARING ON THE FOLLOWING MEASURES:
B20-79, THE “OFFICE OF JOBS CZAR ESTABLISHMENT ACT OF 2013”
and
B20-582, THE “DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA UNEMPLOYMENT PROFILE ACT OF 2013”

Councilmember Vincent B. Orange, Sr. announces the scheduling of a public hearing of the Committee on Business, Consumer, and Regulatory Affairs for the purposes of receiving testimony on B20-79, the “Office of Jobs Czar Establishment Act of 2013” and B20 582, the “District of Columbia Unemployment Profile Act of 2013”. The public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 500 of the John A. Wilson Building located at 1350 Pennsylvania Ave., N.W., Washington, DC 20004.
The purpose of the public hearing is to receive testimony from the public and other interested parties on the two bills. B20-79, the Office of Jobs Czar Establishment Act of 2013”, proposes to establish an Office of the Jobs Czar within the District of Columbia for the purposes of organizing and centralizing the implementation of a comprehensive workforce development strategy, coordinating job training programs, and for other purposes. B20-582, the “District of Columbia Unemployment Profile Act of 2013”, would require the Department of Employment Services to produce and submit to the Mayor and the Council of the District of Columbia a complete profile of the District’s unemployed and under-employed residents as a means of aiding the city in providing adequate job training for future jobs by the year 2017.

Witnesses are asked to furnish their names, addresses, telephone number, email address, and organizational affiliation, if any, by the close of business, Wednesday, January 8, 2014. Each witness is requested to bring 20 copies of his/her written testimony. Representatives of organizations and government agencies will be limited to 5 minutes in order to permit each witness an opportunity to be heard. Individual witnesses will be limited to 3 minutes.
If you are unable to testify at the roundtable, written statements are encouraged and will be made part of the official record. The official record will remain open until the close of business of Wednesday, January 29, 2014.
