    NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

     

    Amendments to Chapter 6 (Taxicab Parts and Equipment) of Title 31 (Taxicabs and Public Vehicles for Hire) of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations

    JUNE 6, 2012

    Ron M. Linton, Chairman, DC. Taxicab Commission (DCTC) announces a Public Hearing to receive comments on the District of Columbia Taxicab Commission’s notice of its intent to adopt amendments to Chapter 6 (Taxicab Parts and Equipment) of Title 31 (Taxicabs and Public Vehicles for Hire) of the District of Columbia Municipal Regulations (“DCMR”).

     

    The proposed amendments will: 1) clarify the authority of hack inspectors to make traffic stops to enforce regulations; 2) expand the type of vehicles that are allowed to operate as taxicabs in the District of Columbia to include compact and midsize sport utility vehicles; 3) authorize and clarify the use of a cruising-light toggle switch; 4) clarify that a hack inspector may inspect officially required vehicle or operator documents during traffic stops for vehicle safety inspections; 5) modify the permissible age up to which a vehicle may be placed into service as a taxicab; 6) clarify that a “salvage” vehicle may not be placed in service as a taxicab; and 7) correct the subsection designation in section 612.   Effective dates will be included in the Notice of Final Rulemaking.
