Councilmember David Grosso announces the continuation of a public roundtable on the summative evaluation of public schools in the District of Columbia as required by the Public Education Reform Amendment Act of 2007. The roundtable will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 in Hearing Room 500 of the John A. Wilson Building.

The Public Education Reform Amendment Act of 2007 (PERAA) granted mayoral control and oversight over DCPS. The legislation also required that each year beginning in 2008, the Mayor submit an independent evaluation of the city’s public schools under PERAA that includes an assessment of business practices, human resource practices, academic plans, and annual achievements. After five years, PERAA required a summative evaluation of DCPS. The report is now being released. On June 3, the team from the National Academy of Sciences provided testimony and presented their findings.

Those who wish to testify are asked to telephone the Committee on Education, at (202) 724-8061, or email Ade Adenariwo, Administrative Assistant, at aadenariwo@dccouncil.us, and provide their name, address, telephone number, organizational affiliation and title (if any) by close of business Thursday, June 18, 2015.  Persons wishing to testify are encouraged, but not required, to submit 15 copies of written testimony.  Witnesses appearing on his or her own behalf should limit their testimony to three minutes; witnesses representing organizations should limit their testimony to five minutes.

If you are unable to testify at the hearing, written statements are encouraged and will be made a part of the official record.  Written statements should be submitted to the Committee on Education, Council of the District of Columbia, Suite 116 of the John A. Wilson Building, 1350 Pennsylvania Avenue, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20004.  The record will close at 5:00 p.m. on July 6, 2015.
