    IN THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

     

    June 18, 2013

     

     

    We are proud to recognize, honor, and express our overwhelming gratitude to Ginnie Cooper for her commitment to excellence and for her numerous contributions to the District of Columbia and her residents.

     

    WHEREAS, Ginnie Cooper joined the District of Columbia Public Library as Chief Librarian in 2006, hired by the Library Board to transform the District of Columbia Public Library;

     

    WHEREAS, a librarian since 1970, Ginnie Cooper has worked in libraries in 5 states;

     

    WHEREAS, Ginnie Cooper was awarded the 2013 Thomas Jefferson Award for Public Architecture from The American Institute of Architects;  

     

    WHEREAS, Ginnie Cooper is a past president of the Public Library Association, a division of the American Library Association; and

     

    WHEREAS, Ginnie Cooper is a recipient of the Charlie Robinson Award made by the Public Library Association to recognize a public library director who has been a risk-taker, an innovator, and an agent for change.

     

    RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, That this resolution may be cited as the “Ginnie Cooper Recognition Resolution of 2013”.

     

    Sec. 2. The Council of the District of Columbia is proud to recognize, honor, and express our overwhelming gratitude to Ginnie Cooper, a believer in the power of public libraries to make a difference in the lives of individuals and in communities.

     

    Sec. 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon the first date of publication in the District of Columbia Register.
