  • OFFICE OF CABLE TELEVISION

    NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

The cable franchise renewal process presents a challenge and opportunity for the Government of District of Columbia, as it endeavors to ensure that this community will have modern cable television systems capable of serving its future needs and interests. The District of Columbia’s current cable franchise agreement with Starpower Communications, LLC (d/b/a “RCN”) expires in 2010 and RCN is seeking to renew the agreement. The Office of Cable Television (OCT) will be conducting a needs assessment throughout the months of August and September to measure public needs from a cable television perspective.

Public input hearings are scheduled to provide an opportunity for the public to comment on the franchise renewal process and specific cable television needs as they relate to educational institutions, the business community, and community access. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in these public hearings.

The public hearings will be held on the following dates and times:

Tuesday, September 7, 2010, 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Hattie Holmes Senior Wellness Center, 324 Kennedy Street, NW, Washington DC 20011.

Wednesday, September 8, 2010, 6:00pm to 8:00pm, McKinley Technology High School, 151 T Street, NE, Amphitheater, Room 150, Washington, DC 20002.

Comments at the public hearing are limited to three minutes per participant. Written comments are also encouraged and will be received until 5:00pm, Thursday, September 9, 2010. Written comments concerning this matter should be forwarded to: D.C. Office of Cable Television, Attn: Eric E. Richardson, Director, 3007 Tilden Street, NW, Pod P, Washington, DC 20008.
